Shelley Allen holds a Bachelor of Music Education and completed Music Therapy at Columbia University. Shelley is an experienced Music Educator and Music Therapist.
Cindy Allen is a music teacher, keyboard player, and singer who has performed at various venues throughout the Maritimes. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance.
School Facilities
Take Note Music School has excellent facilities to offer students. Located at 363 Charlotte Street in Sydney, the school is on the main bus route and is in the heart of the downtown business district. There is a pleasant waiting room available for parents and students and a large, bright studio for group activities.
Block Program
Take Note Music School's Block Program offers a unique experience in music for young children.Starting as young as age three and continuing until age six, children learn the fundamental music concepts in an exciting atmosphere with the emphasis on fun.
Level A: Pre-School
This program is taught during the day for one hour a week in a limited group situation. Combined experiences in creative drama and art, along with the basic music program using Orff and Kodaly, promote learning in a natural way. The Block Program includes singing games and activities stressing vocal production and auditory awareness. Rhythm instruments and rhythmic movements are utilized to encourage the sense of beat.
Level B: Ages 5 and 6
This group continues to develop auditory and rhythmic skills with songs, games and movement and an introduction to music theory.
Junior Piano
An introductory, small group approach for younger students who have completed the Block Program.This course will include theory as well as private and small group instruction.
Additional Programs
Piano: Private half hour classes with qualified teachers.
Guitar: Group/private classes for adults and children.
Children's Choir: Ages 5 to 10 vocal technique with Orff accompaniment, staging, costuming and performing.
World Music Drumming: Classes for adults involving hand drumming styles from different musical cultures around the world.
Music Theory: Small group sessions with Royal Conservatory Exam Preparation.
Fiddle: Cape Breton style.
Music Therapy: Private or group sessions.Classes for children or adults with special needs including mental and physical handicaps.
Adult Piano: Learn to chord to all your favorite songs.
